HISTORY OF ROSEWOOD
For thousands of years rosewood grew undiscovered in the depths of the Amazon Rainforest. In 1922 with the first release of the Chanel N°5 perfume a new chapter of Rosewood began. Now the noble odor of the oil was used besides in a growing number of perfumes in many skin and health care products. Hundreds of distilleries were built along the Amazon river from Peru to Colombia to Ecuador and Brazil.
The peak of production was reached in the late sixties and early seventies. In Peru alone, 600,000 kilos of essential oil were produced. High exploitation was the consequence and the population of the tree was reduced drastically until it became endangered. By now rosewood is on the list of endangered species (CITES Appendix II) in which the trade is highly regulated and controlled.
PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
Perfume:
Heart Note, A noble smell of precious wood that is both fresh and persistent. It yields natural linalool to the formulation.
Skin care:
Rosewood essential oil has high antibacterial effect due to its high Alpha pinene (Monoterpene) content. Linalool (highest content in nature) joint with nerol, geraniol and limonene are stimulating skin cells and regenerate tissues. The stimulating and regenerating properties contribute to ultimate rejuvenation of dull, dry, and oily skin. Rosewood was also tested on the skin and has an anti-cancer effect, by destroying pre-cancerous and cancerous cells, while leaving healthy cells unaffected. Rosewood will also help restore skin elasticity, promoting smooth and wrinkle free skin.
Health care:
Rosewood essential oil serves as an analgesic, a substance that has the ability to relieve headache, nausea muscle pains, joint pains, and toothache. The oil is also anti-septic, which can assist healing and the reduction of any infection with a cut or abrasion. Rosewood is commonly used as a deodorant, due to its wonderful aroma, its ability to drive away bacteria, and keep emotions refreshed and the mind revitalized all day. The oil is also a very strong stimulant. Along with hormones and emotions, the oil also stimulates enzymes, bile, stomach acids, circulation and digestion.
Spiritual:
The high Linalool content is calming to the mind. Rosewood essential oil induces meditative states and can be used during meditation. The oil also invites compassion into one’s heart, while lifting spirits and instilling spiritual beauty. Rosewood essential oil is also excellent for feminine spiritual energy and can assist in balancing one’s femininity.
